» If the motorcyclist dismounts the motorcycle without first unhooking the activation wire, does MOTOAIRBAG® activate itself?
Before the system activates itself, it’s necessary to reach a certain activation force. It means that if the motorcyclist forgets to unhook the activation wire before dismounting the motorcycle, he feels an elastic recall which alerts the motorcyclist that he has not yet unhooked the activation wire.
»Can MOTOAIRBAG® be used again after an activation?
If MOTOAIRBAG® is activated without an impact, it can be regenerated with a very easy operation. This operation can be made by the motorcyclist or by an authorized dealer.
If MOTOAIRBAG® is activated with an impact (with a suspected damage of the functional part), it’s necessary to take it to be inspected.
» How long MOTOAIRBAG® does remain inflated?
The bag remains inflated for more than a minute, than it gradually deflates.
» Why should the internal shoulder straps and the internal belt must be fastened?
The internal shoulder straps and the internal belt are directly fixed on to the bag and in case of impact they make sure the bag positioning is correct, even if the MOTOAIRBAG® waistcoat (or the MOTOAIRBAG® jacket) are not properly fastened (for example in summer).
» Can the motorcyclist do his common journey movements (for example to turn round, to jolt,…) when the activation wire is hooked to the motorcycle?
The length of the activation wire will let the motorcyclist make his common movements on his/her motorcycle during the mote.
Besides the activation wire is coiled up in order to be always tight.
» When MOTOAIRBAG® is inflating and inflated, is the pilot impeded in his movements?
The shoulder straps and belt system and the characteristics of the finished garment has controlled force elastic parts which extend during the activation in order to permit the motorcyclist to move commonly (to get up, to run, to jump, to bend,…) for example to run away from an eventually dangerous zone.
» If in an accident there is only a motorcyclist’s sliding, does MOTOAIRBAG® activate all the same?
The shortest distance the motorcyclist has to surpass from the saddle is only 56/60 cm. The motorcyclist sliding with his/her motorcycle can in the beginning hit the ground with his/her lower limbs. Normally he/she doesn’t hit his spinal cord and he/she parts from the motorcycle activating MOTOAIRBAG®.
»If the gas generator is hit during an impact, is there a possibility that it may hit the motorcyclist’s back?
The gas generator is mounted on the external part of the bag. When the bag is inflated, the gas generator is no longer in contact with the motorcyclist’s back. Even if he/she could be hit, the inflated bag interpose between the gas generator and the motorcyclist’s back, softening the impact.
» Can the activation wire be hooked to any point of the motorcycle?
The snap link of the activation wire must be hooked only to the ring of the saddle strap (given with MOTOAIRBAG®) which must to be fastened round the saddle or frame behind the motorcyclist.
» How can this fixing point be created? (It is necessary to get the strap to fasten on the saddle?)
The saddle strap and mounting instructions are given with MOTOAIRBAG®.
» Why has it been chosen to hook the snap link of the activation wire behind the motorcyclist?
To hook the activation wire behind the motorcyclist will reduce the trigger time for the MOTOAIRBAG® activation in case of unsaddling of the motorcyclist. That’s why in most cases (90%), the motorcyclist is thrown ahead. Moreover the back position of the activation cable permits more comfortable riding.
» May another item of clothing or rucksack be worn on MOTOAIRBAG®?
No, they may not. When MOTOAIRBAG® activates itself, the back zones that host the folded bag expand and the correct opening and inflating of the bag must not be obstructed. So MOTOAIRBAG® must to be worn independently, without a rucksack, or other similar clothing.
» Why is it protecting only the spinal cord and it has not been designed to protect the anterior part of the body also?
At present MOTOAIRBAG® is a back protector CE certified so it offers only a back protection. Researched data shows the spinal cord is still the body part whose wound may produce serous injury, sometimes permanent.
» What does MOTOAIRBAG® weigh?
MOTOAIRBAG® waistcoat weighs about 1400 g.
»Has the gas cartridge a date of expiry?
In normal conditions, the gas cartridge has not a date of expiry. If the gas cartridge is utilizated during a MOTOAIRBAG® activation, it must be replaced. The used gas cartridge it’s not rechargeable and it has to be removed.
